This Sieber “Agate” Flatstone is not a true agate in the geological sense.
Despite its name, Sieber Agate is actually a historic copper smelting by-product (slag) from the mining region near Sieber, Germany. During metal extraction centuries ago, molten material cooled and hardened, forming glassy swirls and layered patterns that resemble agate — which is how it received its name.
It is man-made in origin, later naturally weathered and solidified over time.
🏺 What Makes It Special:
- Historic metallurgical residue from German copper mining
- Glassy, patterned appearance resembling banded agate
- Limited material with regional significance
- Interesting crossover between mineralogy and industrial history
